R&B music has been around a long time, since the 1940's, although it use to sound a little different (no Boys II Men, Motown Philly kind of thing going back then). The style of music was a combination of blues music from the country, and the more black-oriented, big-band sound. Some of the early R & B musicians were T-Bone Walker, Fats Domino, James Brown (he's a lot like the energizer bunny--just keeps going and going...) and Ray Charles.
